![]() ![]() So it made sense for me to dive into the story from that perspective! Readers have rightfully pointed out that the story has some similar vibes to the movie Election, which ironically also stars Reese Witherspoon. ![]() ![]() How did you come up with this idea and were there other movies, TV shows, or books that influenced the story?ĭefinitely! I love queer retellings of classics, and Legally Blonde has been one of my favorites for years. Buy Blaine for the Win here, and click here to pre-order Couch’s next book, If I See You Again Tomorrow!īlaine for the Win has been described as a Young Adult, LGBTQ version of Legally Blonde. But as the campaign progresses, Blaine is forced to consider how much of himself he is willing to sacrifice to be who Joey wants him to be. Determined to prove that he can be the “serious” guy of Joey’s dreams, Blaine impulsively enters the race for senior class president and soon becomes a prominent candidate (What? Like it’s hard?). Instead, Joey breaks up with him-in public-saying that Blaine is just not “serious” enough. Blaine is convinced that today, which marks his one year anniversary, is the day that his boyfriend, Joey, will finally ask Blaine to go on his annual Cabo trip with him. The story begins on what is supposed to be the best night of 17-year-old Blaine Bowers’ life. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly read any more about politics, I came across Blaine for the Win and have been obsessed with it ever since. ![]()
